The government of Odisha announced the implementation of the much-anticipated 7th Pay commission. The scheme will be beneficial for more than 4.5 lakh government employees and 3.5 pensioners.&nbsp;

As the employees will get a pay hike in September&#39;s salary, the implementation will put a burden of Rs. 4,500 crore on the State exchequer.

&quot;My government has decided to implement the recommendations of the committee constituted for examination of 7th Central Pay Commission report and its adoption for the state government employees,&quot; said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

According to the chief minister, the work on arrear payments is under process.

Arrears will be given out for 20 months--the period between January 2016 and August 2017. The amount would total to roughly Rs. 9000 crore.

The details of the revised pay matrix are likely to be announced soon. 
 
The state is contemplating that it would be similar to that of the centre&#39;s implementation. Therefore, a 14.5 per cent hike in basic salary and 23 per cent increase in the overall salary is expected.&nbsp;

Government employees and pensioners have been demanding implementation of the pay commission recommendations from January 1, 2016, as done by the central government. 
 
This announcement has come at a time when the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has clarified that tax payers will have to link PAN with Aadhaar card by August 31--a three day deadline.
