US and allied forces have carried out large scale airstrikes against the Islamic State group across Syria following a deadly attack in Palmyra that killed two US soldiers and a US civilian interpreter. The US military said the strikes were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, launched in direct response to the December attack on American and Syrian forces.
