Once abandoned, Niklaus-Samuel Gugger commonly known as Nik Gugger became the first Indian to be elected to the Swiss parliament in November as a candidate from&nbsp;Evangelical People&#39;s Party (EPP) party.

Born in Udupi town of Karnataka, he was abandoned by his biological mother, and later adopted by a couple from Kerala where he spent his first four years.

The couple used to work in Kerala&#39;s Thalassery in a development project of the Swiss Protestant Churches HEKS; the family later shifted to Uetdenorf, Switzerland.

Member of Central Board of the Evangelical People&#39;s Party of Switzerland, Gugger have an experience in social work from an early age as he grew with elderly people after his parents took over the management of the new retirement home in the village, which helped Gugger in a becoming a leader in CEVI the association of YMCA and CVJF of Switzerland.

At the time when Gugger was studying in social work in University of Applied Sciences Northwestern, he was an active social worker.

He was a member of the working group for the development of the mission statement of&nbsp;open youth work in Winterthur.

In 2003, he was commissioned by the Protestant Reformed Church to build a youth church the city of Winterthur which located in the reused Sulzer area.

Gugger has many times been deployed in various parts of the world to bring travellers safely home, including in Thailand after the December 26, 2004, Tsunami.

In 2002, he was a member of the City Council of Winterthur city northeast of Zurich in northern Switzerland.

Gugger&#39;s political focus are financial and social issues.

He was elected as a member of Switzerland parliament on the ticket of the Evangelical People&#39;s Party in November last year.

Apart from being an active social worker Gugger is also a successful entrepreneur. He has a social enterprise that provides social projects for the unemployed.

Nik Gugger is a co-founder and board member of the consulting firm Herzkraftwerk AG in Winterthur, which offers to coach for decision-makers from business and non-profit organizations, he also owns a restaurant, restaurant Concordia in Winterthur.

Several times in his interviews Gugger has shown proud to be in between two swiss and Indian culture.

Earlier Media had reported Gugger that he would be visiting&nbsp;Thalassery this year when the 70th anniversary of Indo-Swiss friendship would be celebrated.
