The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) said Tuesday that sharing your Netflix password might be illegal as it breaks copyright law. Not just in UK, but it is extremely common for people in most countries to share their Netflix passwords. However, it is against the terms of service agreements.

However, Netflix has never said that it will take legal action against such users. Reference to password sharing has also been removed from IPO's guidance on the government website. However, the legal standing on the matter remains the same, a spokesperson said.

"There are a range of provisions in criminal and civil law which may be applicable in the case of password sharing where the intent is to allow a user to access copyright-protected works without payment," it said.

It aims to "make it easy" for them to set up their own or transfer their profile into a new account. "Sub-accounts" for family or friends subject to extra payment are also on the cards. The platform is likely to roll out such features by early 2023.

Netflix is experimenting with a new method of payment from freeloaders who steal passwords. According to Variety, the company is introducing a feature that allows customers to legitimately enable access from a second home for an additional monthly fee in five Latin American nations.&nbsp;

The "add a home" feature will be available on Netflix in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras starting the following month. Anyone in each additional home will then be able to stream Netflix on any device at a price that is less expensive than full standalone membership.

This comes after the streaming service in March launched a feature called "add extra member" in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru that allows users to pay a monthly fee to grant access to Netflix to people outside of their households.

According to Netflix, users share their login information with more than 100 million non-paying households worldwide, including more than 30 million in the United States and Canada, in violation of the company's terms of service.

As per Chengyi Long, Netflix's director of product innovation, "widespread account sharing between households undermines our long-term ability to invest in and improve our service".

It will cost Netflix subscribers in the five new markets 219 pesos per home per month in Argentina and USD2.99 per home per month in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala to purchase an additional "home" for streaming access.

Customers on the Basic plan may add one additional home; those on the Standard plan may add up to two additional homes, and Premium plan subscribers may add up to three additional homes. Netflix to introduce new password-sharing payment plan in 5 countries

Netflix will work with Microsoft to launch a cheaper subscription plan that includes advertisements, the firms said Wednesday, as the streaming giant fights to attract customers.

Netflix opted to develop the lower-cost offering after a disappointing first quarter in which it lost subscribers for the first time in a decade, and after years of resistance against the very idea of running ads.&nbsp;

The ad-supported subscription will be in addition to the three options already available, the cheapest being $10 per month in the United States.
