The Supreme Court has dismissed to hear the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking minority status for&nbsp;Hindus in several states and union territories.

It has directed the petitioner to approach National Commission for minorities.&nbsp;

A PIL was filed by a Delhi BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay.

The petitioner&nbsp;sought minority status in seven states and union territories claiming that &quot;the minority rights of the Hindus were being siphoned off illegally and arbitrarily to the majority population&quot;.

According to the 2011 Census Hindus are in minority in eight states, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Punjab.
