Himani Jain also echoed the same point, stating that no work could be done in the MCD for the last two-and-a-half years. &ldquo;In the last 2.5 years, no work was done in the corporation that should have been done. We were in power, yet we did nothing... We have formed a new party because our ideology is to work for the development of Delhi... We will support the party that will work for the development of Delhi. So far, 15 councillors have resigned. More may join,&rdquo; she told the media.

Most of the rebel councillors had left Congress to join the Aam Aadmi Party before the last municipal elections. Goel himself had switched to AAP from Congress in 2021. He has served as a municipal councillor for 25 years.

<h2>Discontent simmering in AAP</h2>
The exodus of so many councillors from AAP points to a serious discontent in the party that was routed by the BJP in the assembly polls in February. AAP has been plagued by internal strife since the assembly poll results came in. AAP had carried out an organisational shake-up in March to stem the discontent by appointing former minister Saurabh Bharadwaj as the new president of its Delhi unit. Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was appointed in charge of Punjab, where assembly elections are due in 2027.

Markets across the Delhi are to remain closed due to the bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders in protest against the ongoing sealing drive by the municipal corporation of Delhi.

According to reports traders in Khan Market, Greater Kailash 1 and 2, South Extension, Defence colony Connaught place, Karol Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Chandni Chowk, Sarojini Nagar have said that they will not open their shops.

The traders are also protesting in various parts of the national capital.

The shopkeepers and traders have alleged that the shops are being sealed without any prior notice, and even after accepting conversion charges. Traders demanded protection from sealing by bringing a specific law.

MCD has conducted a sealing drive in Delhi against unauthorised shops in Delhi.

Earlier this month about 13 <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/ndmc-continues-its-sealing-drive-in-khan-market-on-tuesday-28982">outlets were sealed in Khan Market</a> including cafeterias, restaurants, bars and other stores.

The sealing drive was also conducted in <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/after-khan-market-ndmc-conducts-sealing-drive-in-lodhi-colony-29113">Lodhi colony&#39;s Meharchand Market </a>on January 10.

Restaurants like Khan Chacha and Smokey&#39;s Grill were sealed. Geetanjali Salon, Javed Habib&#39;s, Affinity Salon, Ayena Skin Clinic and Amrapali Jewellery store were also among those sealed.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Master Plan 2021 states that any proprietor who uses a property for mixed purposes must pay a one-time conversion charge at the rate notified by the government.&nbsp;

&#39;Use conversion charge&#39; is a mandatory payment to be paid when a residential property is used for commercial purposes.&nbsp;

The traders are also demanding the Centre to bring a legislation in forthcoming session of Parliament to protect trade and traders of Delhi, the association said in a statement.

Traders from across the country will also join them to demonstrate their solidarity with the Delhi traders, it added.

In August this year, McDonald&#39;s had terminated franchise agreement for 169 out of its 430 fast food outlets operated by Bakshi-led Connaught Plaza Restaurant Ltd (CPRL) in the north and east India, alleging breach of contract terms and payment default by the operator.

Post franchise agreement termination, both the sides are locked in a protracted legal battle at various courts, including National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Delhi high court.

Bakshi, who has challenged the termination, continues to operate the outlets saying he will run them until there is a amicable solution by the courts or an acceptable offer by McDonald&#39;s to buyout of his stake in CPRL. 
CPRL is a 50:50 joint venture between McDonald&#39;s India Pvt Ltd (MIPL) and Bakshi.

&quot;We are actively progressing towards finding the right Developmental Licensee partner for the region so that we can grow the business and rebuild the McDonald&#39;s brand,&quot; a McDonald&#39;s India spokesperson told PTI.

Sources in the know said the US-based food chain has finalised the criteria for selection of licensee partner and would come out with a name probably in a couple of months.

It was widely speculated that Hardcastle Restaurants, which runs McDonald&#39;s stores in the west and south, is the front-runner for the job. However, there are other players who are keen to grab the license in the region, considering the high-profit margins at which McDonald&#39;s outlets operate.

The spokesperson, however, declined to comment on the interested parties.

Commenting on the ongoing conflict that grabbed headlines post-termination, he said: &quot;These restaurants (McDonald&#39;s outlets being run by Bakshi) need to be closed immediately. As such, we are taking steps to exercise our contractual and legal rights&quot;.

As per the termination notice, CPRL was ceased to use McDonalds&#39;s name, system, trademark, designs and its associated intellectual property, among others.

The company said it is not aware of the food and safety standards as the outlets being run are unauthorised.

&quot;Since the termination, MIPL has not been able to verify if these unauthorised McDonald&#39;s restaurants are following operational procedures and controls, supplies and safety standards,&quot; the spokesperson said.
