Dutch King Willem-Alexander apologised to Indonesia on Tuesday for "excessive violence" during the former colony's independence struggle in the 1940s. The king made the remarks during a state visit to the country with Queen Maxima after a ceremony with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in the capital Jakarta.

Indian President Ram Nath Kovind has invited the Dutch Royal couple for a state visit to India. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will be visiting the country from the 14th to the 18th of October, and will be travelling to New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kerala. This will be the first visit of the King after his ascension to the throne in 2013.
