Manohar Parrikar, who resigned as India&#39;s defence minister to become the next chief minister of Goa, was sworn-in as the next head of India&#39;s tiny western state on Tuesday.

But Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi&#39;s Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, has come under severe criticism from the Congress who have accused them of &quot;murdering&quot; democracy.

India&#39;s top court on Tuesday&nbsp;allowed Parrikar to be sworn in as the chief minister but asked him to undergo a floor test on Thursday to prove the numbers.

The political churn started soon after the recently-held Goa elections when Congress won 17 Assembly seats as against BJP&#39;s 13. But the BJP outsmarted the Congress by forging post-poll alliances with regional parties and thereby staking their claim on government formation.

The Congress subsequently turned to India&#39;s Supreme Court to intervene in the matter, arguing they have the first right to prove the majority as they were the single-largest party.
