<p>In a never-thought-of nightmarish situation, an Alaska Airlines flight - from Honolulu to Anchorage - was forced to turn back after its bathroom sink malfunctioned and flooded the cabin of the Boeing 737 Max 9 jet with four inches of water.</p>

<p>According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, Alaska Airlines Flight 828 took off from Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport at 10:16 pm on March 29.</p>

<p>The plane was headed to Anchorage when "an issue with water from the lavatory sink shortly after takeoff" occurred, said the airline, in a statement to PEOPLE.</p>

<p>Passenger Dustin Parker recorded the on-flight video footage in which the flight attendants were seen using paper towels to try and&nbsp;soak the water which had filled in the entire centre aisle.</p>

<p>"There was probably two to four inches of standing water that swooshed out as soon as you opened that front door of the lavatory," said flight passenger Dustin Parker, while speaking to KTUU-TV.</p>

<p>"I would say an hour and a half into the flight is when we noticed the water and it was significant. The entire floorboards of that airplane [were] completely wet," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Plane remained in air for more than two hours before&nbsp;returning</strong></h2>

<p>According to the FlightAware data, the plane remained in the air for two hours and 18 minutes and travelled only 842 miles before going back to Honolulu.</p>

<p>While speaking to PEOPLE, Alaska Airlines said that the aircraft landed safely at Daniel K Inouye International Airport around 12:30 am (local time).</p>

<p>"Unfortunately, due to a lack of available aircraft for a swap, the flight had to be cancelled. We promptly re-accommodated our guests on alternative flights. We apologize to our guests for the inconvenience this caused and commend the crew for their actions to ensure the well-being and comfort of our guests," the airlines said, in a statement.</p>
