The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting suspended the award a few days before the scheduled ceremony.&nbsp;

The letter issued by the ministry and signed by deputy director Indrani Bose, reads, as per reports,&nbsp;“In view of the seriousness of the allegation and the matter being subjudice, the Competent Authority has decided to suspend the National Film Award of the Best Choreography for the Year 2022 to Shri Shaik Jani Basha for the film Thiruchitrambalam until further orders.”

The Awards cell has also withdrawn the invitation to attend the 70th National Awards ceremony at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.&nbsp;

The news of award revocation comes a few days after he was granted interim bail by the Ranga Reddy District Special Court. He got the temporary bail from October 6th to October 10th.

Jani, whose real name is Shaik Jani Basha, was accused of sexually assaulting his female colleague, who claimed that the choreographer had harassed her multiple times since she started working with him.&nbsp;

After a police complaint, the survivor&nbsp;submitted a 40-page written document to the Telangana State Commission for Women, detailing the incident with&nbsp;evidence.&nbsp;

As per The Hindu, Nerella Sharada, the chairperson of the committee, said, "The committee has issued orders to provide police protection for the victim and a high-level monitoring committee will also be constituted to investigate such cases in the film industry. We will take this case very seriously and efforts are made for strict implementation of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act in all workplaces, including the constitution of local and internal committees."

The woman stated that he had offered her a job as an assistant choreographer, which she accepted. According to her claims, the sexual assaults happened after this, including an incident at a hotel in Mumbai where they were staying for a show with two other male dancers. 
 
The choreographer allegedly threatened her with violence if she reported the matter and mentally harassed her during photoshoots and rehearsals. 
 
She further alleged that he pressured her to convert and 'marry' him, even though he was already married. On one occasion, she claimed that both he and his wife entered her room and slapped her. 
 
Jani Master has choreographed in a number of Bollywood movies like Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Stree 2 and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
