Indian weddings are usually grand. People run around a lot to get the perfect venue, food and other stuff for the extravagant affair. But some people believe in giving it a new spin, with some out-of-the-box ideas.

Like Anant Trivedi and Kavita Batra from Kota. While bride and groom are usually confined to the wedding venues and ceremonies, Anant and Kavita decided to tie the knot at the finish line of the Jaipur Half-Marathon in February this year.

Thirty-one-year-old Anant, a techie based in Bengaluru, travelled all the way to Jaipur to take part in the half-marathon and then tie the knot with Kavita.

Anant has some fond memories of the wedding. "After I finished the race, we exchanged garlands at the venue of the cycling event and for rest of the ceremonies, 50-odd 'cyclist' baraatis rode all the way to the wedding venue," said Anant.

Anant said the reason he chose to get married in this fashion was "to create public awareness about fitness and environment conservation". Although he faced a great opposition from his in-laws for this idea, he always had the constant support of his fiancé, Kavita, due to which the dream turned into reality.

"Indian weddings are usually an extravagant affair and I wanted to do something different," Anant said.

He said that the idea of this unconventional wedding struck him when his wedding dates clashed with the dates of the half-marathon he was participating in. Instead of moving the wedding dates or cancelling his participation in the event, he decided to go ahead with both at the same time.

Kavita, who also loves outdoor activities, was supposed to participate in the half-marathon along with Anant but had to sit out due to a leg injury. She was waiting for Anant at the finish line where they exchanged garlands in presence of many participants and friends.

"It was a delightful experience. I am happy to get married to my friend and beloved. It was the best day of my life. I hope the day will also spread the message for the society to run for good health," Anant said.

Anant completed his engineering from a college in Jaipur. He started cycling in 2011 due to health reasons and it soon turned into a passion. He has participated in various cycling events and marathons, including Mountain Biking Himalaya.

Anant met Kavita through common friends in New Delhi where she was working.
