<p>Pakistan had earlier filed a petition in the Islamabad court seeking appointment of a "legal representative" for Jadhav, however, the Indian government wasn't informed about the move as India's foreign ministry said Pakistan has once again exposed its "farcical" approach by denying available legal remedies to Jadhav against his death sentence.</p>

<p>"The whole exercise of not providing documents related to the case even after repeated requests, not providing unimpeded consular access and some reported unilateral action of approaching the High Court on part of Pakistan again exposes the farcical nature of Pakistan's approach," India's external affairs ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said.</p>

<p>Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui had, however, said the country had taken "necessary steps" to implement the verdict of the ICJ.</p>

According to Pakistan's International Court of Justice Review and Reconsideration Ordinance which was enacted in May a petition for the review of a military court's decision can be made to Islamabad High Court through an application within 60 days of its promulgation amid protests by Pakistan's Opposition parties.</p>

<p>India today handed over to Pakistan an appeal by the mother of retired Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, sentenced to death by a military court, to the appellate court, initiating a process to get his conviction overturned.</p>

<p>The appeal on behalf of Jadhav was given to Pakistan&#39;s foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua by Indian high commissioner Gautam Bambawale, who also handed over a petition by Jadhav&#39;s mother seeking the Pakistan government&#39;s intervention for his release and expressing the desire to meet him.</p>

<p>As per the appeal system in Pakistan, a death row convict has to move an appellate court within 40 days of pronouncement of the verdict.</p>

<p>&quot;Pakistan was also requested to facilitate visas for the mother and father of Jadhav. They wish to travel to Pakistan to meet him and also to personally file the petition and the appeal. They have applied for necessary visa with the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi,&quot; the ministry added.</p>

<p>It is the second time that Bambawale has met Janjua in connection with the naval officer&#39;s case.</p>

<p>On April 14, Bambawale had met with the Pakistan foreign secretary and expressed India&#39;s concern regarding the whereabouts and health condition of Jadhav. He had told media after his meeting that he had asked for a list of charges and an authentic copy of the verdict of the military tribunal against the retired officer to launch an appeal process against his conviction.</p>

<p>Jadhav was given death sentence by the Field General Court Martial earlier this month, evoking a sharp reaction in India which warned Pakistan of consequences and damage to bilateral ties if the &quot;pre-meditated murder&quot; was carried out.&nbsp;</p>

Kulbhushan Jadhav's mother files appeal in Pak court against his death sentence

<p>Pakistan has apprehended three suspected Indian spies in Pakistan&#39;s Kashmir on Saturday, days after another spy believed to be working for India&#39;s primary foreign intelligence agency was awarded a death sentence for espionage activities by a Pakistani military court.</p>

<p>The arrests come hours after India called off talks involving maritime security issues with Pakistan, in a further blow to the strained bilateral relations.</p>

<p>Indian media reports suggest three people allegedly working with India&#39;s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) were rounded up by the police in Rawalkot, Poonch district, for carrying out anti-state activities.</p>

<p>Mohammad Khalil, Imtiaz, and Rashid, all from Taroti village in Abbaspur -- a small town located near the de-facto border separating India and Pakistan -- were arrested for allegedly bombing a police station in Pakistan&#39;s Kashmir.</p>

<p>Pakistani officials said the trio was apparently targeting the &quot;China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)&quot; -- a $62 billion project undertaken by China to improve Pakistan&#39;s infrastructure.</p>

<p>The three men have been booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Explosives Act and will be produced before Pakistan&#39;s anti-terrorism court.</p>

<p>Pakistan said they were involved with three Indian army and RAW officers -- Major Ranjeet, Major Sultan and an unnamed officer, police told Pakistan-based Geo News.</p>

<p><strong>Diplomatic brinkmanship over spy&#39;s death sentence</strong></p>

<p>The India-Pakistan relations hit a new low when a Pakistani military court condemned a suspected Indian spy to death sentence for attempting to foment unrest in Pakistan&#39;s restive Balochistan province.</p>

<p>New Delhi reacted strongly to the verdict, calling the trial &quot;farcical&quot; and labeling the military court&#39;s injunction as &quot;premeditated murder&quot;.</p>

<p>While Pakistan maintain that Jadhav was given a fair trial and was subsequently found to have been a RAW asset, India say he was a former naval officer and had no links to the establishment anymore.</p>

<p>New Delhi also believe that Jadhav might have been abducted by Pakistan from Iran.</p>

<p>India has accused Pakistan of not getting consular access to Jadhav, despite having sent 14 such requests -- the most recent being on Friday.</p>

<p>But Pakistan hit back by saying that Jadhav carried two passports, one with a Hindu name and the other bearing a Muslim name.</p>

<p><strong>Maritime security talks called off</strong></p>

<p>Earlier on Saturday (April 15), India marked its protest against the verdict by suspending maritime talks with Pakistan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A delegation from Pakistan&nbsp;led by its Maritime Security Agency (MSA) was to visit New Delhi April 16-19 to discuss issues related to the frequent arrests of fishermen transgressing maritime borders.</p>

<p>Unnamed sources in India&#39;s Coast Guard said the Ministry of Defence has not given clearance for the delegation&#39;s visit, according to Press Trust of India.</p>
