Following the announcement by the Maldives government that Israelis will not be allowed to enter the Indian Ocean archipelago, the Israeli embassy in India on Monday advised its nationals to visit Indian beaches instead.

Mohamed Muizzu, the president of the Maldives, has “resolved to impose a ban on Israeli passports.” The administration has not said when the ban would take effect.

“Since the Maldives is no longer welcoming Israelis, here are some beautiful and amazing Indian beaches where Israeli tourists are warmly welcomed and treated with utmost hospitality. Check out these recommendations (from the Israeli embassy in India), based on the places visited by our diplomats,” the Israeli embassy said in a post on X.

The post&nbsp;features images of beaches in Lakshadweep, the Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands, Goa, and Kerala. General Kobbi Shoshani, the Israeli consul, even retweeted a tweet from Prime Minister Narendra Modi from January in which the PM is seen admiring Lakshadweep's scenic beauty.

Resharing the image and the message posted by Prime Minister Modi in January, Shoshani wrote in a tweet, “Thanks to the Maldives Government’s decision, Israelis can now explore the beautiful beaches of Lakshadweep.”

Lakshadweep became the focus of controversy after three Maldives politicians made derogatory&nbsp;statements about India and PM Modi while commenting on pictures from the PM's trip to Lakshadweep, sparking xenophobic, racist, and vile remarks toward India.

Additionally, Israel's foreign ministry advised its citizens not to visit the Maldives. “In light of the Maldives government’s decision to ban the entry of citizens with Israeli passports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Israeli citizens avoid any travel to the Maldives,” the Foreign Ministry's statement said.

“The recommendation is also valid for Israeli citizens holding a foreign passport, in addition to the Israeli passport. For Israeli citizens staying in the country, it is recommended to consider leaving, since if they fall into distress for any reason, it will be difficult for us to help,” the Foreign Ministry added in the&nbsp;statement.

Last year, over 11,000 Israelis visited the Maldives, accounting for 0.6 per cent of all tourist arrivals. But compared to the same period last year, Israeli visitors fell to 528 in the first four months of this year, an 88 per cent decline.
