At least eight people were injured after a blast took place near Kasturi Bridge Manipur&#39;s Imphal Bazar.

Two, out of the injured, are in a critical condition.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Police have reached the spot.

The explosion comes in the backdrop of the last phase of the two-phased Manipur Assembly elections which concluded today.

Manipur: 8 injured in bomb explosion in capital Imphal

A bomb blast was reported at the gate of Manipur University in Imphal today afternoon, making it the second such incident in the state capital of northeastern Manipur in a day. 
 
Earlier in the day, a seven-year old child was injured in an IED blast near a Border security Force (BSF) camp while playing nearby at Moirang Purel village.&nbsp; 
 
The child has been rushed to a hospital in Imphal, an officer said. BSF and armed state police cordoned off the area. 
 
As per reports, the blast was set off by local militants active in the region.The number of injured is likely to increase. 
 
Earlier on Monday, two BSF personnel were on injured when three powerful bombs exploded at Kangpokpi in Manipur`s Senapati district. No organisation or individual has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack so far.&nbsp; 
 
Security forces deployed in Manipur are on alert ahead of Independence Day. Underground outfits operating in the entire northeast region, including the state, have been boycotting the Independence day celebration for several years, said an officer of the state home department.&nbsp;
