In its largest recruitment drive since 2013, State Bank of India will be hiring nearly 9,500 junior assistants for customer support and sales functions.&nbsp;

The drive is initiated after the bank&#39;s employee headcount reduced to over ten thousand during the current fiscal.&nbsp;

The employees reduced to 2,69,000 by end September compared to 2,80,000 at the beginning of the financial year.&nbsp;

The reduction in the number of employees is due to attrition and voluntary retirement after the merger of associate banks.&nbsp;

The largest number of vacancies are in Uttar Pradesh followed by Maharashtra.&nbsp;

The Indian public sector banking has advertised in the country for filling up the vacancies.&nbsp;

There are over 9,000 vacancies. Out of this more than 1,100 are to clear a backlog in the reserved category.&nbsp;

The bank aims to restructure its staff following the merger of the five associate banks with itself.&nbsp;

An introduction to straight-through processing and digital Banking has reduced the need for administrative staff but has increased the need for more customer-facing employees.&nbsp;

According to the Bank&#39;s management, staff strength could decline further as replacement will not be &quot; Head to Head&quot;.&nbsp;
