<p>In his letter, Patel welcomed the &quot;implementation of the Supreme Court&#39;s order&quot; and also brought to notice the Supreme Court&#39;s mandate that &quot;the savings accrued from the gradual reduction in the Haj subsidy must be deployed towards the socio-economic welfare of the community.&quot;</p>

<p>Patel further noted that the government decided to reduce and &quot;<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/haj-subsidy-to-be-abolished-gradually-mukhtar-abbas-naqvi-21129">eventually eliminate&quot; the subsidy</a> four years prior to the 2022 deadline.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Central government&#39;s grant for Haj, between the years 2014 and 2017, shrank from 400 crores to 200 crores, the letter noted.&nbsp;</p>
