Donald Trump has canceled a planned trip by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad, dealing a blow to ongoing diplomatic efforts with Iran.

The visit was expected to revive stalled ceasefire talks, but Trump said there was “no point” in sending officials for long-distance negotiations without clear progress.

Crucially, Trump clarified that canceling the trip does not mean the Iran war will restart, even as tensions remain high and negotiations uncertain.

Tensions between Iran and the United States are escalating once again as Tehran issues a strong warning over the ongoing US naval blockade of its ports.

Iran’s military has declared that Washington will face a “powerful response” if the blockade continues, calling the move illegal and tantamount to piracy. The US, meanwhile, is enforcing strict restrictions on ships entering and leaving Iranian ports as part of its pressure campaign.

The standoff is raising fears of wider conflict, with Iran warning that security across Gulf shipping routes could be at risk if the blockade is not lifted.
