In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly chopped off the private part of her boyfriend in Bihar’s Saran district on Monday.&nbsp;

Police have arrested the 25-year-old woman, a doctor from Hajipur, under the relevant sections of attempt to murder.&nbsp;

The victim, a man from Saran, was a councillor of Ward No. 12 in Madhura block. He has been admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment.&nbsp;

The accused, whose name is not revealed, claimed that she had an affair with the man for the last five years but he kept refusing to marry her. She somehow convinced him for&nbsp;a registered marriage in court.&nbsp;

On the day of marriage registration, the woman reached the court but the victim did not turn up. Furious about man’s betrayal the doctor called him to her house, and as soon as he reached there, she allegedly chopped off his private part in a fit of rage, as per police report.

On hearing the councillor’s cry, the neighbours informed the police who then found him lying on the&nbsp;bed in a pool of blood.&nbsp;

"The woman is a 25-year-old unmarried doctor from Hajipur. She was doing practice in Madhaura. The victim is also unmarried," said the SHO of Madhaura police station in Saran district.

"We have arrested the accused and further investigation is underway," he added.

The doctor explained to police that she had sacrificed a lot for their relationship and was devastated by the councillor's repeated refusal to marry her. This incident has shocked the people and sparked discussions about the complexities of relationships and the consequences of unresolved disputes.

A team of scientists from Portugal's Gulbenkian Science Institute was trying to understand how a specific protein works in the middle stages of embryo growth.&nbsp;

Embryos at the beginning are only a bundle of identical cells. When they develop, the cells specialise and start forming different body parts. Generally, the development starts from the head and goes back towards the tail. The human embryos also have tails in the early days, however, they disappear after roughly eight weeks.&nbsp;

It is well-known to scientists that in most four-limbed mammals, both the hind limbs and the external genitalia (the penis or clitoris) get&nbsp;developed from the same early structures.

The research team, headed by developmental biologist Moises Mallo, emphasised one particular receptor protein known as Tgfbr1. &nbsp;

The protein, which is officially known as transforming growth factor beta receptor I, has involvement in the expression of genes. It helps in deciding which ones to be activated in what place and what each cell should turn into - a blood cell, muscle tissue or a nerve cell.&nbsp;

In this groundbreaking study, Tgfbr1 was inactivated by the researchers in mouse embryos roughly halfway through development to understand how the spinal cord's development was affected.

The researchers discovered an embryo which had developed extra limbs and had no genitals. Also, various organs were growing outside of its body.&nbsp;

It appeared that in the absence of this protein, other genes came into action and the cells grew into more legs and not genitals.

The scientists are now hoping that more research into this will help them determine if Tgfbr1 and its relatives can affect DNA in other systems, like metastatic cancer.
