<p>A giant construction crane operating at the site of a future Google campus collapsed from the roof of a building and toppled across a Seattle intersection on Saturday, killing four people and injuring three others, authorities and local media said.</p>

<p>The crane collapse occurred in Seattle's South Lake Union neighbourhood shortly after 3:30 pm&nbsp;local time, crushing five cars and damaging a sixth at the intersection of Fairview Avenue North and Mercer Street, the Seattle Fire Department said.</p>

<p>Three men and a woman were killed. Two of the dead had been working in the crane, and the two others were in separate vehicles struck on the street below, the fire department said in a statement posted online.</p>

<p>Four other individuals were evaluated on the scene by medics and three of them - a 27-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman and a 4-month-old infant girl - were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the fire department said.</p>

<p>The cause of the crane failure was under investigation by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, according to the statement.</p>

<p>Local media, including the Seattle Times, reported that the crane was operating on the construction site of a new multi-building complex being built for Google.</p>

<p>Eyewitness Esther Nelson, a biotech research assistant who was working in a building nearby, told the Seattle Times she saw the crane fall from the vantage point of a break-room window.</p>

<p>"It was terrifying," the newspaper quoted her as saying. "I looked up. The wind was blowing really strong." She said the crane was about eight or nine stories tall and appeared to have broken in half.</p>

<p>"Half of it was flying down sideways on the building," she said. "The other half fell down on the street, crossing both lanes of traffic."</p>

<p>At least four people have died as heavy rain continued to pound Kozhikode district triggering multiple landslides in the hilly regions of the district.</p>

<p>Incessant rain triggered landslips at many places, including Kakkayam, Pulluramppara, Kattippara, Karinchola and Chamal areas of the rural belts of the district. Unconfirmed reports said 13 people are missing from these regions and a search operation was on to trace them.</p>

<p>The Thamarassery Police in Kozhikode district said that the bodies of four persons who died in landslides at 5 am on Thursday have been recovered.&nbsp</p>

<p>Traffic on the Kozhikode-Mysore-Kollegal Highway was affected after a tree fell on the Thamarassery Ghat road. Vehicles have been diverted via the alternative Kuttiyadi road to reach Kozhikode. Similarly, traffic was disrupted after flooding at Nellamkandi near Koduvally.</p>

<p>A suicide attack targeting a political party headquarters in western Iraq has killed four people and injured seven others, including a candidate in polls set for May, officials said today.</p>

<p>Last evening "two suicide bombers disguised as soldiers entered the Al-Hal Party headquarters", one of most prominent parties in the Sunni-majority province of Al-Anbar, a local security official told AFP on the condition of anonymity.</p>

<p>One of the attackers "detonated his explosive belt while political leaders held a meeting" at the campaign headquarters in the city of Hit, about 200 kilometres (125 miles) west of Baghdad, General Qassam al-Mohammadi, head of army operations in the area, told AFP.</p>

<p>"Three members of the security forces were killed and seven people, including candidate Zineb Abdel Hamid al-Hiti, were wounded," he said.</p>

<p>A municipal employee today also succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack, the anonymous official said.</p>

<p>He said the second attacker detonated his belt shortly after the first, but did not cause any casualties.</p>

<p>Medical sources confirmed the death toll of four and said Hiti had been hospitalised with light injuries.</p>

<p>There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack, which took place in the tribal desert province of Al-Anbar, primarily home to Sunni Muslims.</p>

<p>Sunnis are a minority in Iraq, where more than two-thirds of the population is Shiite Muslim.</p>

<p>For three years, the Sunni Islamic State jihadist group ruled over the province, which stretches from the western periphery of the capital to the border with war-torn Syria.</p>

<p>In December, Baghdad declared "victory" against IS after retaking the groups last urban stronghold in Al-Anbar.</p>

<p>Rescuers combed through the rubble of collapsed buildings on Wednesday, some using their hands as they searched for about 85 people missing after a strong earthquake killed at least four near the popular Taiwanese tourist city of Hualien overnight.</p>

<p>The magnitude 6.4 quake, which hit near the coastal city just before midnight (1600 GMT) on Tuesday, also injured 243 people, officials said. The latest figures from government data indicated 85 people were missing.</p>

<p>Many of those were believed to be still trapped inside buildings, some of which was tilting precariously after the quake hit about 22 km (14 miles) northeast of Hualien on Taiwan&#39;s east coast.</p>

<p>Two people were trapped inside a badly damaged hotel. The injured included mainland Chinese, Czech, Japanese, Singaporean and South Korean nationals.</p>

<p>Aftershocks with a magnitude of at least 5.0 could rock the island in the next two weeks, the government said. Smaller tremors rattled nervous residents throughout the day.</p>

<p>Residents waited and watched anxiously as emergency workers dressed in fluorescent orange and red suits and wearing helmets searched for residents trapped in apartment blocks.</p>

<p>Hualien is home to about 100,000 people. Its streets were buckled by the force of the quake, with around 40,000 homes left without water and around 1,900 without power. Water supply had returned to nearly 5,000 homes by noon (0400 GMT), while power was restored to around 1,700 households.</p>

<p><strong>Damage, Panic&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Emergency workers surrounded a damaged residential building in the area. Windows had collapsed and the building was wedged into the ground at a 40-degree angle.</p>

<p>Rescuers worked their way around and through the building while residents looked on from behind cordoned-off roads. Others spoke of the panic when the earthquake struck.</p>

<p>&quot;We were still open when it happened,&quot; said Lin Ching-wen, who operates a restaurant near a damaged military hospital.</p>

<p>&quot;I grabbed my wife and children and we ran out and tried to rescue people,&quot; he said.</p>

<p>A Reuters video showed large cracks in the road, while police and emergency services tried to help anxious people roaming the streets. A car sat submerged in rubble as rescue workers combed through the ruins of a nearby building.</p>

<p>The shooter, Constable Sanath Kumar, has been apprehended.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An MI17 helicopter was sent to airlift the bodies and the ASI to Raipur.</p>
