Four members of a family have been found dead inside a locked house in the Rangpur area of Bangladesh, leaving the local community shocked and prompting a police investigation.

The deceased include a 65-year-old retired school teacher, his wife, their 25-year-old daughter and their 12-year-old son.

Police reportedly broke open the lock after neighbours alerted authorities about a foul smell coming from the house. The retired teacher was found dead on the roof, while his wife and daughter were discovered on the staircase leading to the roof. Their 12-year-old son was found under a bed.

Locals said the house had remained locked for several days and that the family had not been seen since Thursday.

Police reportedly found household items and furniture scattered throughout the home. An investigation has now been launched to determine what happened to the family.
