Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at the Congress on Sunday (Apr 28)&nbsp;and said that the Supreme Court gave a "tight slap" on the face of the grand old party with its verdict over electronic voting machine (EVM).

He said that after the apex court's verdict, the Congress will not be able to make any "excuses" when they lose the elections.

He then took a jibe at the party stating that the Congress is in "panic" mode after the polling in Karnataka during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

While addressing a public meeting in Karnataka's Davanagere, PM Modi said, "The state of Karnataka has created a panic in the Congress party with the voting on April 26...they are very frustrated. Congress is working with all might to ensure that something happens on May 7, and they are at least able to open their accounts...this huge gathering is clearly showing that people of the state will punish Congress for its sins."

"The day is not far when all the internal battles within Congress party will come out on roads.&nbsp;Everyone will be putting the blame of the loss on each other. Earlier, they used to put the whole blame on EVM. They start chanting 'EVM EVM' as soon as the election comes. But, now the Supreme Court has given such a tight slap, that even this excuse can't be given," he added.

Earlier last week, the Supreme Court rejected petitions seeking 100 per cent verification of votes cast on EVMs with paper slips generated through VVPAT&nbsp;(Voter-verified paper audit trail).

The court also rejected the petitioners' plea to return to ballot paper voting on April 26.&nbsp;

The two-judge bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta delivered a unanimous verdict.&nbsp;

In a veiled jibe at CM Siddarmaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, he also hit out at the Karnataka government accusing them of giving 2.5 years of chief ministership to its leaders.

"Congress in Karnataka isn't addressing the public but they are trying to see how number one will defeat the number two. Due to their factionalism, nepotism and wrong policies, Congress is playing with the future of the youth, farmers and common people," PM Modi said.

"In Karnataka, they have not told the public, but have decided one will sit for 2.5 years and the other for the next 2.5 years. Now, if they create a system like this, won't the two sabotage each other?," he added.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who Saturday met Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora to raise the issue of EVM malfunctioning, said 21 political parties have demanded verification of VVPAT paper trails of 50 per cent of the EVMs.

"EC is acting under BJP, they are not correct, they have to act impartially which they are not doing. Also, we doubt even EVMs are under manipulation and that's why we are demanding 50% counting of VVPATs. They are not agreeing", Naidu said.

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said opposition parties will approach the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the EC for counting of at least 50 per cent of the VVPAT slips with the EVMs in every assembly segment.

He said the opposition parties will carry out a nationwide campaign on the issue of discrepancies in EVMs.

"We do not think the EC is doing enough to address the issue of EVM malfunctioning," Singhvi alleged.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court Monday directed the EC to increase random matching of VVPAT slips with EVMs to five polling booths per assembly segment, from one at present, in the Lok Sabha polls, saying it will provide greater satisfaction not just to political parties but the entire electorate.&nbsp;

Meanwhile taking a dig at the Centre, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said, &nbsp;there's no in-built fault in EVMs, BJP tampering with them: Arvind Kejriwal.
