A court in Delhi on Saturday (Mar 23) extended the Enforcement Directorate custody of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha till March 26.

She was arrested on March 15 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.

While extending the police custody, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja sought the probe agency's response to the bail plea moved for Kavitha.

The ED has alleged that Kavitha, who is former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's daughter, was one of the significant members of the 'South Group' that is accused of paying the Aam Aadmi Party recompenses worth Rs 100 crore in exchange for a massive share of liquor licences in Delhi.

"Further, K Kavitha and her associates were to recover the proceeds of crime paid in advance to AAP and to generate profits/proceeds of crime from this entire conspiracy," stated ED.

After producing Kavitha in court, the investigation agency stated that she was confronted with the statements of four people along with a forensic report of the data that was extracted from her phone.&nbsp;

The ED also told the court that raids were conducted at the house of her nephew in Hyderabad.

"A search was also conducted at the residence of K Kavitha in Hyderabad. During the search proceedings, the ED officials were obstructed by the relatives and associates of K Kavitha," said ED in a statement.&nbsp;

Kavitha was arrested following a raid at her Hyderabad residence by the probe agency.

In the arrest order, the concerned ED investigation officer said: "I believe that Smt. Kalvakuntla Kavitha w/o Mr. D R Anil Kumar, residing at H. No. 8-2316/S/H, Road No 14, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, Telengana-500034 has been guilty of an offence punishable under the provision of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (15 of 2003)."

"Now, therefore, in the exercise of the power conferred upon me under sub-section (1) of section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (915 of 2003), I hereby arrest the said Smt. Kalvakuntla Kavitha at 05.20 pm on 15.03.2024 and she has been informed of grounds for arrest. A copy of the grounds of arrest (containing 14 pages) have been served upon her."

She has denied any wrongdoing and has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government was "using" the ED as BJP could not gain "backdoor entry" into Telangana.

Delhi court extends ED custody of K Kavitha till March 26 in excise PMLA case

A Delhi court on Tuesday sent Sushen Mohan Gupta, alleged defence agent arrested by the agency in the Rs 3,600-crore VVIP choppers scam, to four-day ED custody.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which produced Mr Gupta before Special judge Arvind Kumar, had sought his custody for 14 days.

Mr Gupta was arrested by the agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED officials said Mr Gupta’s role in the case came to light on the basis of disclosures made by Rajiv Saxena, who has turned approver in the case after he was deported from the UAE and arrested by the agency in New Delhi.

It is suspected that Mr Gupta has in his possession some payment details in the purchase of AgustaWestland VVIP choppers and the link is to be unravelled, they said.
