Pakistan’s first-ever economic census has revealed shocking statistics: the country has over 600,000 mosques and 36,000 madrassas, but only 23,000 operational factories.

Released by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, the data has triggered heated debate as Pakistan struggles to revive its economy and finalize a $7 billion IMF bailout review. Critics argue that the imbalance in social infrastructure vs. industrial development reflects deeper structural issues in national planning and priorities.

Economic Census is the complete count of all establishment located within the geographical boundary of India. The Economic Census provides disaggregated information on various operational and structural variables of all establishments of the country. Economic Census also provides valuable insight into geographical spread/clusters of economic activities, ownership pattern, persons engaged, etc. of all economic establishments in the country.
