Veronique Berecz, Musée Grévin's head of PR, said that the museum had no intention of "white washing" the figure. Instead, the discrepancy in skin tone was attributed to the challenges of recreating a lifelike wax figure based solely on reference photos and not the actual person. Lighting conditions in these photos can distort the perception of skin tones, making achieving accuracy a complex task, especially when they have not met the subject in person.

Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has taken exception to the allegedly inaccurate representation at the Grevin Museum in Paris, France. The globally beloved star has voiced his dissatisfaction with the portrayal of his new wax figure. The controversy first came to light through an Instagram reel shared by comedian James Andre Jefferson Jr in a tongue-in-cheek manner. Jefferson poked fun at the wax figure's depiction of The Rock, quipping, "That's how Paris thinks he looks," while highlighting the figure's notably lighter skin tone.
