The incident at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences was captured by a CCTV camera in the hospital.

As per the CCTV footage, the attacker grabbed the doctor by her hair and banged her head on the steel frame of a hospital bed. Other doctors in the ward immediately came to their colleague's rescue and the attacker was overpowered and taken away.

Dr RV Kumar, the intern wrote a letter to the SVIMS director cum vice-chancellor, saying she was on duty in the Emergency Medicine Department on Saturday.

"I was unexpectedly attacked by a patient, Bangaru Raju, who approached me from behind, pulled my hair and began forcibly banging my head against the steel rod of a cot," she wrote, adding that no security personnel were present at the site to help her.

The intern doctor emphasised the need for improved workplace safety in light of the recent attack and said that the situation could have turned deadly if the patient had been armed. She demanded immediate action to enhance security measures and protect hospital staff.

Following the incident, the doctors of the hospital staged a protest and demanded safety at the workplace.

It may be mentioned here, the incident at the Andhra hospital comes weeks after the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College on August 9.&nbsp;

The 31-year-old was raped and killed on duty. The brutal incident has sparked massive protests and doctors from several leading institutions across the country came to the streets to demand measures to ensure their safety at work.

The Supreme Court set up a 10-member National Task Force to recommend steps to prevent violence against doctors,&nbsp;ensuring safe&nbsp;working conditions for healthcare workers. The court has said the task force would prepare an action plan to prevent gender-based violence and ensure a dignified working space for doctors.

The impasse at the state-run medical colleges and hospitals in West Bengal entered the sixth day on Sunday, even as the agitating doctors asserted that they were open to talks with the government.

Earlier, the agitators had insisted that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visit the city's NRS Medical College and Hospital, the epicentre of the agitation.

After an internal meeting late on Saturday, the doctors, who had turned down an invite for a closed-door meeting with Banerjee at the state secretariat, mellowed down and stated that they were ready to hold a dialogue in any form, but the venue of the meeting would be decided later.

During a press conference at the state secretariat on Saturday, Banerjee urged the agitators to resume work and said her government had accepted all of their demands.

She also stressed that a group of doctors had met her and expressed their willingness to join duty, a claim vehemently refuted by the striking doctors.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory, seeking a report on the ongoing stir and stating that it had received a number of representations from the medical fraternity from different parts of the country for their safety and security in view of the strike in West Bengal.

Resident doctors at Delhi&#39;s Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital have gone on indefinite strike, a senior doctor&nbsp;who works at the hospital told WION.

According to hospital sources, some drunk men assaulted the doctors and guards late Sunday night.

The chief medical officer&#39;s (casualties) office was vandalised, and the aluminium door to his office broken.&nbsp;

This incident comes close on the heels of the assault on resident doctors in Maharashtra, after which they went on indefinite strike.

The strike was called off only after the Bombay High Court ordered that the doctors be provided security.
