Jason Bull, a director of Eurostar Commodities said that the high price could result in pasta shortages in supermarkets.&nbsp;

Eurostar Commodities imports more than 10,000 tonnes of food ingredients each year.

He further added that the magnitude of the cost increases involved meant they would have to be passed on to consumers.&nbsp;He estimated a 500g packet of spaghetti could increase in price by 60p, or 50 per cent, to £1.80.

He added, "This is a dire situation hitting all semolina producers and all buyers of durum wheat across the globe. Companies are buying at record high prices.”

The warning came as the supermarket chain Morrisons was alarmed that prices would rise across the retail industry in the coming months. &nbsp;

Tosin Jack, Mintec’s commodity intelligence manager said that the concerns about the significant decline in the North American durum wheat crop following the dry weather and the impact of the cold spring on the quality and quantity of the Italian crop, had caused prices to skyrocket.

She was quoted by The Guardian as saying, "Canada is a big exporter so this has fuelled fears of a supply shortage."

“At the same time, the quality issues in Italy mean that Italians are potentially going to rely more on imports this year. So we have a situation where there is less to go round and demand is not going to go down … so if you really want pasta you are going to have to pay more.”

Nearby residents said the blast rocked their homes and some reported property damage, NBC 10 Boston reported.

According to&nbsp;Sara Taglieri, who lives in a home that abuts the quarry,&nbsp;“We heard this God-awful blast.”

“It knocked pictures off our walls … I’m all up for silliness and whatnot, but that was extreme.”

Taglieri’s husband, Matt, told the TV station that neighbours reported cracks in the foundation of their homes from the explosion.

No injuries were reported, police said. The person who bought and detonated the explosives has turned himself into police. He was not identified. Police said an investigation is ongoing and they will soon decide on charges.

Instead, it chose a set of criteria for athletes to meet, including a clean doping past and sufficient testing at international events, that so far has allowed more than 250 out of the original 387 Russian athletes to be cleared for Rio. 
 
Bach, speaking at the IOC session in the Brazilian city, said preventing clean athletes from competing and treating them as &quot;collateral damage&quot; would have been wrong. &quot;This blanket ban of the Russian Olympic Committee has been called by some the &#39;nuclear option&#39; and the innocent athletes would have to be considered as collateral damage,&quot; Bach said. 
 
&quot;Leaving aside that such a comparison is completely out of any proportion when it comes to the rules of sport. Let us just for a moment consider the consequences of a &#39;nuclear option&#39;.
