The BJP -- which has dominated the MCD for a decade and is eyeing a third consecutive term -- the ruling&nbsp;Aam Aadmi Party, and the Congress had&nbsp;roped in top leaders for wooing voters.&nbsp;

The civic polls are crucial for the&nbsp;AAP, which lost a&nbsp;recent by-election&nbsp;in the national capital to the BJP and fared poorly in the&nbsp;Punjab and Goa assembly elections.

Kejriwal&#39;s former party colleague Yogendra Yadav, who now leads the Swaraj India, wrote an open letter to the chief minister and challenged him to win at least 50 per cent seats in the civic polls or step down. Swaraj India is making its debut in the MCD elections along with&nbsp;the Janata Dal (United).

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal were among the first to cast their votes.

Kejriwal appealed the people to come out in large numbers and vote for a &quot;Dengue and Chikungunya free&quot; Delhi.

Manish Sisodia appealed to the people to come and vote for his party and &quot;help the national capital fight corruption&quot;.

Despite losing prominent leaders like Arvinder Singh Lovely and Barkha Shukla Singh to the BJP, the Congress is upbeat about winning the polls. The party said on Sunday that &quot;misrule&quot;&nbsp;of the BJP and the breach of promises by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal are&nbsp;factors which will&nbsp;lead to its success.

&quot;We are expecting very good results. People are fed up with the BJP rule, where it has miserably failed. So, the BJP is not in the favourable list as far as people are concerned. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is almost written off by the people because after the Rajouri Garden elections, it is evident that people have rejected the party. The breach of promises by Kejriwal and misrule of the BJP are before the people of Delhi. People will also remember the good old days when the Congress had provided very good administration in the corporation. The None Of The Above (NOTA) option was available to voters for the first time.

The elections will be held after the latest delimitation exercise that has restructured the civic wards.

The Delhi Election Commission has set up over 13,000 polling booths, out of which over 3,000 have been identified as sensitive while around 1,500 as hypersensitive.&nbsp;

Nearly 57, 000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls in the national capital.&nbsp;

The Delhi Government has ordered a dry day to avoid any untoward incidents during elections. No alcohol will be sold in restaurants, bars, and stores, to be observed in the national capital on Saturday until 5:30 pm Sunday night.

Counting will take place on April 26.

Polling time for Delhi civic polls ends

The BJP could be headed for a landslide victory in the Delhi municipal polls with two exit polls predicting the party finishing way ahead of the AAP and the Congress with over 200 of the 270 wards where polling was held today.

Going by the projected figures, the AAP could well be staring at a rout on its home turf, barely two years into its rise to power bagging a staggering 67 of the 70 Assembly seats, while the Congress&#39; attempt to regain ground may come a cropper.

According to the India Today-Axis exit poll, the BJP may bag anything between 202 and 220 seats, while the AAP and the Congress will score something around 23-35 and 19-31 respectively.

The CVoter-ABP exit poll claimed the BJP was likely to sweep Delhi with 218 seats, limiting the AAP and the Congress to 24 and 22 seats respectively.

Polling was held in 270 wards of the three municipal corporations. The election to two wards has been postponed due to the death of candidates.&nbsp;

Delhi chief minister alleges 'widespread tampering' of EVMs, wants civic polls postponed

Eyeing a hat-trick in Delhi civic polls, BJP chief Amit Shah Saturday launched a blistering attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleging that corruption has flourished under the Kejriwal government and people must teach it a lesson.

Addressing BJP workers ahead of the MCD elections, Amit Shah referred to party&#39;s victories in the recent assembly polls and said a win in the civic elections will help catapult the party to power in the national capital.

He was addressing a convention of booth in-charges at the Indian capital&#39;s Ramlila Ground where around 60,000 workers had gathered.

Pointing to an India map near the dais, Shah said while the country is being painted in &quot;saffron&quot;, Delhi continues to remain a &quot;white spot&quot; and asked the party workers to ensure BJP&#39;s victory in the civic polls.

&quot;After 2014, BJP has won nearly everywhere, except Delhi and Bihar. Today BJP workers will go back with a resolve to plug the gaps so that the BJP&#39;s victory flag is unfurled in the national capital,&quot; he said.

Targeting the Delhi government, Shah accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of getting into fights with the Centre for political reasons.

&quot;The AAP has indulged in corruption like no other party has in such a short time. His (Kejriwal) principal secretary was arrested by CBI. There was graft in procuring onions, in appointments in DCW, in procuring water tankers, street lights.

&quot;A minister is involved in hawala. There was a&nbsp;scam in the waqf board. And most importantly, AAP used the Delhi exchequer&#39;s money in Gujarat, Kolkata and other states for putting out advertisements,&quot; the BJP president said.

The BJP President contrasted his party&#39;s &quot;clean record&quot; in governance with the AAP&#39;s &quot;tainted&quot; tenure, saying many of its legislators and ministers were arrested over charges of corruption and &quot;rape&quot;.

He also dared Kejriwal to take action against the legislators and ministers facing various allegations and order a judicial probe into the charges.

&quot;This is not just an MCD election, but it is an opportunity to uproot the AAP government in the next polls,&quot; Amit Shah said&nbsp;and appealed to party activists to work hard for the elections as it was Delhi where the then Jana Sangh, BJP&#39;s predecessor, came to power first.

Uttar Pradesh done, BJP shifts focus to Delhi civic polls

In a bid to &quot;infuse fresh blood&quot; into the upcoming municipal polls, scheduled to be held on April 22, the Delhi BJP has decided to drop all its sitting councillors from the list of candidates.

The announcement was made by the party&#39;s Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari in a press conference here today.

&quot;We have unanimously decided to field fresh faces in the municipal elections. Even family members of the councillors and party leaders will not be given tickets,&quot; he said.

The move is seen as a gamble by the BJP, which has been in power at the civic bodies since 2007, to pre-empt the AAP and Congress from cornering it over charges of corruption against the sitting councillors.

Tiwari said the decision was a step towards realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi&#39;s vision of a &quot;new India&quot; driven by the power of the youth.

These bodies constitute 272 seats, with NDMC and SDMC accounting for 104 seats each, while 64 seats fall under EDMC.

In a bid to "infuse fresh blood" into the upcoming municipal polls, scheduled to be held on April 22, the Delhi BJP has decided to drop all its sitting councillors from the list of candidates. The announcement was made by the party's Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari in a press conference here today. "We have unanimously decided to field fresh faces in the municipal elections. Even family members of the councillors and party leaders will not be given tickets," he said. The move is seen as a gamble by the BJP, which has been in power at the civic bodies since 2007, to pre-empt the AAP and Congress from cornering it over charges of corruption against the sitting councillors.
