A total of 475 members of the new Lok Sabha are 'crorepatis' with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath's son Nakul Nath topping the list, the Association of Democratic Reforms said Sunday.

The ADR arrived at the figure of 'crorepati' MPs after analysing the affidavits on assets and liabilities of 539 new MPs.&nbsp;

The ADR said it was unable to access affidavits of three of the 542 new MPs -- two of the BJP and one of the Congress. The BJP won 303 seats in the 17th Lok Sabha and the Congress 52.

Elections were held for 542 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. The election for Vellore Lok Sabha seat had been cancelled by the Election Commission of India, citing abuse of money power. A fresh date is yet to be announced. Two members of the 545-strong House are nominated.

Out of the 301 new BJP MPs, whose affidavits were examined, 265 (88 per cent) were found crorepati, while all 18 winners of its NDA partner Shiv Sena had assets exceeding Rs one crore.

In Congress, 43 out of its 51 MPs (totalling 96 per cent) were fund to be 'crorepati'.

Similarly, 22 (96 per cent) out of 23 DMK MPs, 20 (91 per cent) out of 22 of the Trinamool Congress MPs and 19 (86 per cent)out of 22 YSR Congress MPs had assets exceeding Rs one crore.

The top three crorepatis MPs are from the Congress, the ADR said.

Nath, who won from Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, has declared assets worth Rs 660 crore, followed by Vasanthakumar H from Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu (Rs 417 crore) and D K Suresh from Bengaluru Rural, Karnataka (Rs 338 crore).&nbsp;

The average of assets per winner in the Lok Sabha elections is Rs 20.93 crore.&nbsp;

There are 266 members in the new Lok Sabha whose assets are Rs 5 core or above.

The number of crorepati MPs elected in 2009 Lok Sabha elections was 315 (58 per cent) and 443 (82 per cent) in 2014.

The 2019 Lok Sabha election&nbsp;has seen an increase in the number of criminal&nbsp;and crorepati candidates.

The report released by the National Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Monday stated that out of the 7,928 candidates analysed in the current election, 2,297 were crorepatis.

The figure was 2,217 during the 2014 elections while 1,249 during the 2009 elections. Around 8,205 candidates were analysed during the 2014 elections while 7,810 candidates during the 2009 elections.

The ADR report also showed an increase in the number of criminal candidates fighting the 2019 elections.

Around 342 candidates with criminal cases are contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the National Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms said.

Out of the 7,928 candidates analysed for Lok Sabha 2019, 1,500 (19 per cent) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves, the ADR said.

Out of 8,205 candidates analysed during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, 1,404 (17 per cent) candidates had declared criminal cases against themselves, and out of 7,810 candidates analysed during the 2009 elections, 1158 (15 per cent) candidates had declared criminal cases against themselves, it stated.

The ADR claimed that as many as 1,070 (13 per cent) candidates contesting in the 2019 polls have declared serious criminal cases, including cases related to rape, murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women.&nbsp;

Out of 8.205 candidates analysed during the 2014 polls, 908 (11 per cent) candidates had declared serious criminal cases against themselves, and out of 7,810 candidates analysed during the 2009 elections, 608 (8 per cent) candidates had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.&nbsp;

As many as "56 candidates have declared convicted cases against themselves," according to ADR.

While the Congress has fielded 47 more candidates with criminal cases in 2019 than in 2009, the BJP has named 59 more such candidates.

2019 Lok Sabha polls witness an increase in criminal and crorepati candidates

The preliminary analysis by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) shows that parties cutting across Karnataka have fielded candidates with criminal or serious criminal records.

As per the data, 32 percent of candidates fielded by the Congress have&nbspcriminal antecedents&nbspwhile BJP the percentage stands at 27 percent. JD (S) stands between the two national parties with 29 per cent. All the&nbspparties have fielded candidates with serious criminal cases. The percentage for BJP stands at 17 percent, for Congress 16 and for JD (S)&nbsp16 percent.

The list also shows that crorepati candidates have been able to muscle into seat distribution. The list of crorepatis candidates who got re-nominated from Congress stands at 134, for BJP it is 97 and for JD-S it is 46 candidates. If we look it at from the percentage points then for BJP it stands at 87 percent, for Congress at 91 percent and for JD-S at 79 percent. As of now BJP has announced a list of 154, Congress 218 and JD-S 126 candidates. All political parties are expected to announce the remaining number of seats soon. The initial list of candidates had created internal problem both for BJP and Congress.

ADR also gives the average asset of a, re contesting corepati candidate. The average asset for such a millionaire in BJP is 8 crore, for Congress it is 28 crore and for JD-S it stands at 14 crore. Elections in Karnataka are being keenly watched as its results like Gujarat will have national repercussion for both BJP and Congress.
