<p>The southwest monsoon has been active over Coastal Karnataka, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.</p>

<p>At present, several isolated places of Karnataka especially interior parts of the state is witnessing heavy rainfall and is expected to receive more in the next 24 hours.</p>

<p>"Forecast for 24 hours: Rainfall very likely at most places over Coastal Karnataka and at many places over North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka," stated IMD in its All-Weather Warning Bulletin.</p>

<p>Besides Karnataka, light to moderate rains is forecast for a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, parts of Telangana, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu.</p>

<p>However, Chennai will remain dry while Bengaluru may receive some patchy rains.</p>

<p>According to Skymet, weather forecasting agency, active Southwest Monsoon has also given heavy rain and thundershower activities in many parts of Madhya Pradesh during the last 24 hours.</p>

<p>Khajuraho has received a whopping 100 mm rainfall in a span of just 24 hours. As monsoon continues to remain active, more rain showers will lash region, with chances of flooding in several parts of the state.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening expressed his concern for "those affected by heavy rains in various parts of Karnataka". PM Modi tweeted out directing the authorities to "ensure all assistance in the affected areas".</p>

<p>As per reports by Skymet weather, cyclone Mekunu was likely to hit Kerala this week. The private weather forecaster has predicted, "moderate to heavy rains with one or very heavy spells likely over Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep and Karnataka" today.</p>

<p>The formation of well-marked low pressure over the south-east Arabian Sea, off the coast of Karnataka and north Kerala, is believed to have triggered heavy spells of rainfall in Kerala and Karnataka.</p>
