Equity benchmark Sensex advanced 111 points on Monday, tracking gains in HDFC twins, SBI and L&amp;T amid mixed cues from global markets.

The 30-share BSE index climbed 111.42 points or 0.22 per cent to finish at 50,651.90. The broader NSE Nifty rose 22.40 points or 0.15 per cent to 15,197.70.

SBI was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, advancing over 2 per cent, followed by L&amp;T, ITC, Dr Reddy's, Axis Bank and PowerGrid.

On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, UltraTech Cement, Titan and Bajaj Finserv were among the losers.

Domestic equities remained positive despite mixed global cues as a persistent decline in daily caseload and improvement in recovery rate in second wave of COVID-19 continued to lift investors' sentiments, said Binod Modi, Head - Strategy at Reliance Securities.

Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Tokyo ended on a positive note, while Hong Kong and Seoul were in the red.

Equities in Europe were largely trading with gains in mid-session deals.

Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 1.81 per cent higher at USD 67.55 per barrel.

The fears of oil supply disruption also led to possibilities of inflationary pressures after US President Donald Trump threatened sanctions on Iraq, the second-largest producer among OPEC, after its parliament voted in favour of expelling the US and foreign troops.

A day earlier, Iran said it no longer considers itself bound by the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated with the United States and other world powers in the fallout from the killing of Gen Qassem Soleimani.

Reports said gold prices in Indian markets jumped over 2 per cent to record levels as investors rushed to safe-haven assets globally as well as a steep fall in the rupee.

Local gold futures hit an all-time high of Rs 41,096 per 10 grammes while the rupee traded at 72.09 per US dollar.

Meanwhile, Asian shares fell from 18-month highs. Japan`s Nikkei slid by 1.91 per cent, Hong Kong`s Hang Seng by 0.79 per cent and South Korea`s Kospi by 0.98 per cent.

Equity benchmark indices were lower again during early hours on Wednesday with weak cues from global markets as investors awaiting the US Federal Reserve`s announcement on interest rates later today.

At 10:15 am, the BSE S&amp;P Sensex was down 120 points at 37,277 while the Nifty 50 slipped 44 points to 11,042.&nbsp;

At the National Stock Exchange, sectoral indices were mixed with Nifty IT and realty dropping by 1.2 per cent while PSU banks gained over 1 per cent.

Among stocks, Coffee Day Enterprises hit 20 per cent lower circuit for the second day to hit a 52-week low and traded at Rs 123.25 per share after Cafe Coffee Day founder V G Siddhartha`s body was found near the Netravathi river in Mangaluru.

IT majors too suffered from Tech Mahindra dropping by 3.6 per cent, HCL Tech by 1.1 per cent and Infosys by 1.08 per cent.&nbsp;

Axis Bank edged lower by 3.1 per cent, Britannia by 2 per cent, UltraTech Cement by 1.3 per cent and Titan by 1.1 per cent.However, Yes Bank gained over 4 per cent and IndusInd Bank by 3.7 per cent.&nbsp;

Sun Pharma, Indiabulls Housing Finance and JSW Steel showed gains of 2 to 2.5 per cent each.

The 30-share index was trading 68.58 points, or 0.19 per cent, higher at 36,175.08. The gauge opened on a positive note and touched a high of 36,214.26 in morning trade.

The NSE Nifty too witnessed similar movement, and was trading 17.65 points, or 0.16 per cent, up at 10,839.25.

On Thursday, the Sensex settled 106.41 points, or 0.29 per cent, down at 36,106.50, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 33.55 points, or 0.31 per cent, to finish at 10,821.60.

Top gainers at the BSE include HDFC, ONGC, ITC, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank, Reliance, Asian Paints, HUL and Tata Steel.

While top losers were TCS, Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech, M&amp;M, L&amp;T, Indusind Bank and Powergrid.

TCS fell 2.21 per cent to 1846.50 after it reported 24.1 per cent growth in net profit at Rs 8,105 crore for the quarter ended December 2018.

On the macro front, the rupee appreciated by 7 paise to 70.34 against the US dollar in opening trade.

Brent crude futures were trading 0.21 per cent lower at USD 61.55 per barrel.

Elsewhere in Asia, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.81 per cent and Shanghai Composite Index up 0.11 per cent, while Korea's Kospi surged 0.38 per cent.

Sensex rises over 65 points in early trade following value-based buying in auto, oil & gas

Market benchmark BSE Sensex tanked nearly 537 points to end at over two-month low of 36,305.02 and the Nifty crashed below the 11,000-mark Monday, extending their slide for the fifth straight session after heavy losses in banking and auto stocks.

Reports of liquidity concerns following the default in repayment of loans by diversified IL&amp;FS group spooked investors even as losses in global markets on reports that China had called off planned trade talks with the US in the wake of a new round of duties weighed on the market sentiment.

The 30-share Sensex hit a low of 36,216.95 before settling at 36,305.02, down by 536.58 points or 1.46 per cent -- the biggest single-session fall since February 6 when it had lost 561.22 points.

This is the weakest closing since July 11 when it settled at 36,265.93. The index had lost 1,249.04 points in the previous four sessions.

The broader NSE Nifty cracked below the 11,000 level by dropping 168.20 points, or 1.51 per cent to end at 10,974.90 due to foreign fund outflows amid prospects of a 25 basis point hike in the interest rate by the US Federal Reserve this week.

Mahindra and Mahindra fell the most by 6.46 per cent among 30 Sensex stocks while Maruti and Bajaj Auto decline by 3 per cent and 1.7 per cent respectively.

Financial stocks led by HDFC took a hit. HDFC dropped 6.22 per cent, IndusInd Bank by 4.94 per cent, ICICI Bank by 2.8 per cent, Kotak Bank by 2.6 per cent, HDFC Bank by 2.16 per cent, and SBI by 2.04 per cent.

Yes Bank fell by another 0.35 per cent, taking its total losses to more than 29 per cent after the RBI curtailed the term of its founding CEO Rana Kapoor.

Bucking the trend, IT stocks TCS and Infosys rose by 4.5 per cent and 1.5 per cent. Coal India rose by 2.1 per cent while Reliance gained 1.27 per cent.

Sentiments remained distinctly weak in sync with declining global markets as the intensifying dispute between the world's two biggest economies has spooked financial markets worried about the fallout on global growth, brokers said.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and market regulator Sebi said on Sunday that they were closely monitoring the developments in the financial sector and were ready to take "appropriate actions" to calm the jittery investors.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Monday that the government would take all measures to ensure adequate liquidity for non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and mutual funds.&nbsp;
