<p>The Shiv Sena has edged out rival BJP in the Mumbai civic body polls. The Shiv Sena has won 84 BMC wards followed by&nbsp;BJP with&nbsp;82&nbsp;wards,&nbsp;Congress has won 31 wards, NCP has won 9 , MNS has won 7, MIM has won a single ward only with others and ABS winning one ward each respectively.&nbsp;Both parties are, however,&nbsp;well short of the magic figure of 114 needed to control the civic body.<br />

Results were&nbsp;declared for&nbsp;all 227 wards this evening.</p>

<p>The hung verdict will reset the political calculations as no party is in the position to rule the country&#39;s richest civic body on its own and alliance seems inevitable, PTI reported. However, it is not yet clear whether the saffron allies, who share power both in Maharashtra and at the Centre, will get back together or new combinations will emerge.</p>

<p>Even though the Shiv Sena has won marginally more wards than its rival BJP, but it is the ruling BJP in the state which is celebrating as it has seen its tally jump three-fold, according to reports.</p>

<p>Both parties fought the BMC polls separately even though they are allies in the state legislature. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has been at loggerheads with BJP chief minister&nbsp;Devendra Fadnavis over several issues and has threatened to quit the coalition which is barely holding ground in the western state of Maharashtra.&nbsp;<br />

The Sena has controlled the BMC for the last two decades with the BJP remaining a junior partner. Sena&#39;s gamble to go alone in its bastion appeared to have failed to pay off.</p>

<p>Thanking the voters, an elated Fadnavis said, &quot;Our victory is the result of people&#39;s acceptance of our agenda of transparency,&quot; and indicated that his party&#39;s core committee would explore the options before it.</p>

<p>Asked about the future course of action, Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray said, &quot;What is the hurry? Wait for some time. We have not yet decided if an alliance has to be made or not. We will do so soon.&quot;</p>

<p>Earlier this morning, counting of votes for 10 civic bodies, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) got&nbsp;underway.&nbsp;Votes were&nbsp;also being counted for 25 zila parishads (District Councils) and 283 panchayat samitis (Block Panchayats) across Maharashtra.</p>

<p>Shiv Sena set the pace early leading&nbsp;in 93 BMC wards followed by&nbsp;BJP in 70&nbsp;wards,&nbsp;Congress in 22 wards and MNS in 10 and other parties in 19, according to reports.</p>

<p>The results of these local body elections can impact the future of the alliance between the two parties in the state assembly.&nbsp;The elections has seen 56 per cent polling.</p>
