<p>Petrol price in Mumbai rose by 11 paise per litre while diesel price rose by 5 paise per litre.</p>

<p>In Delhi, the petrol price touched Rs 82.72 per litre. Diesel price in the national capital stood at Rs 74.02 per litre, according to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).</p>

<p>Petrol price in Kolkata increased by 10 paise per litre from Rs 84.44 per litre on September 23 to Rs 84.54 per litre.</p>

<p>Diesel price in the West Bengal capital rose by 5 paise per litre, from Rs 75.82 per litre to Rs 75.87 per litre.</p>

<p>In Chennai, petrol price rose by 12 paise, from Rs 85.87 per litre to Rs 85.99 per litre while diesel price in the Tamil Nadu capital increased by 6 paise per litre, from Rs 78.20 per litre to Rs 78.26 per litre.</p>

<p>Fuel prices have been witnessing a steep rise since the past few weeks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the Opposition has blamed the union government for not doing enough to keep a check on prices, the latter has maintained that global crude oil prices and other international factors are causing a hike in prices of petroleum products.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Department of Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg on Friday said that discussions are taking place with the United States regarding the reduction of oil imports from Iran.</p>

<p>"We are in talks with the USA and they told us to reduce the import from Iran significantly. We have done that to some extent. As clarity in the situation emerges, steps will be taken accordingly by the government by November 4," he told ANI.</p>

<p>Garg also said that if needed, discussions will be held on trading of oil in terms of the Indian Rupee.</p>

Fuel prices witness fresh hike: Petrol inches closer to Rs 90-mark in Mumbai

<p>The Central government on Wednesday advanced its deadline to roll out the much cleaner Bharat Stage (BS)-VI compliant auto fuel by April 1, 2018 &mdash; instead of April 1, 2020 &mdash; in Delhi to control severe air pollution levels in the city and its adjoining areas.</p>

<p>The next-generation fuel is equivalent to Euro-VI and will reduce sulphur emissions by 80 per cent, compared to the existing BS-IV fuel standards, according to reports. But the two-stage leapfrog to implement the world&#39;s toughest vehicle emission standards is also likely to spike prices of vehicles.</p>

<p>The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that it took the decision in consultation with public oil marketing companies (OMCs) and has asked them to examine the possibility of introducing BS-VI fuel in the whole of National Capital Region &mdash; that also includes parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan &mdash; from April 1, 2019.</p>

<p>The Centre&#39;s decision was welcomed by environmental groups such as Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) and Greenpeace and the automobile industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).</p>
