At least two people died and 10 others were injured in police firing in Assam&#39;s Dima Hasao district on Friday during a protest against the proposed inclusion of the district as a part of Greater Nagaland, Assam Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay confirmed.

An indefinite curfew has been imposed in the area after the deaths.

The incident took place Dima Hasao&#39;s Maibang area after a group of protesters reportedly blocked a railway station. Police opened fire on the protesters to disperse them.

The protesters had called a 12-hour &quot;Dima Hasao Bandh&quot; to protest the reported move of the Central government to set up satellite council for Nagas in the district as part of the peace talks between New Delhi and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland NSCN&nbsp;(IM).

A 48-hour bandh in Dima Hasao was consequently called by several tribal groups to protest against the police firing.

On Saturday, over 2000 passengers were reportedly stranded in Assam after trains en route to Silchar and Guwahati were stopped midway because of the curfew in Maibang.
