The WEF asked more than 900 leaders from business, politics, and academia about the risks that most concern them.&nbsp;
The report identifies and analyses the most crucial risks across immediate, short, and long-term horizons, aiming to equip leaders with foresight to address emerging challenges.&nbsp;

Notably, 23 per cent of respondents feared "state-based armed conflict" ahead of next year, as the Russia-Ukraine war continues and other major deadly clashes continue, including in Sudan and Gaza.&nbsp;
Moreover, in line, "extreme weather events" is the second most common risk, highlighted for 2025, singled out by 14 per cent of respondents.&nbsp;
This comes as devastating wildfires have engulfed Log Angeles, leading to the evacuation of millions of people.&nbsp;

A series of dramatic floods, droughts, and fires raged through last year, underlining the impact of the climate crisis on weather patterns.&nbsp;
According to the scientists' findings, global heating makes such events more likely, and in many cases, it makes them extreme.&nbsp;
Gim Huay Neo, the WEF&rsquo;s managing director, said, &ldquo;The climate and nature crisis requires urgent attention and action. In 2024, annual global warming reached a record 1.54C above the preindustrial average, with many parts of the world experiencing unprecedented, catastrophic weather events.&rdquo;

Further, two concerns related to technological innovation were next on the list of threats, "misinformation and disinformation&rdquo;, followed by &ldquo;adverse outcomes of AI technologies&rdquo;.
Other leading short-term risks include extreme weather events, societal polarisation, cyber-espionage, and warfare.
Moreover, over half of respondents expected some instability within two years, which shows the widespread fracturing of international cooperation.&nbsp;

'Armed conflict' most urgent threat for world in 2025: WEF

Chad's President Idriss Deby has died while visiting troops on the frontline of a fight against northern rebels, an army spokesman said on Tuesday, the day after Deby was declared the winner of a presidential election.

Deby, 68, came to power in a rebellion in 1990 and was one of Africa's longest-ruling leaders.

His campaign said on Monday he was joining troops battling what he called terrorists after rebels based across the northern frontier in Libya advanced hundreds of km (miles) south toward the capital N'Djamena.

The cause of death was not yet clear.

Army spokesman Azem Bermendao Agouna announced his death in a broadcast on state television, surrounded by a group of military officers he referred to as the National Council of Transition.

"A call to dialogue and peace is launched to all&nbsp;Chadians in the country and abroad in order to continue to build&nbsp;Chad&nbsp;together," he said.

"The National Council of Transition reassures the&nbsp;Chadian people that all measures have been taken to guarantee peace, security and the republican order."

Western countries have seen Deby as an ally in the fight against Islamist extremist groups, including Boko Haram in the Lake&nbsp;Chad&nbsp;Basin and groups linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State in the Sahel.

Deby was also dealing with mounting public discontent over his management of&nbsp;Chad's oil wealth and crackdowns on opponents.

His election victory had given him a sixth term in office but the April 11 vote was boycotted by opposition leaders.
