<p>At least 16 people were killed when a bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims met with an accident on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Sunday. 27 others were injured in the accident.</p>

<p>As many as 19 injured have been airlifted by the army and have been taken to the hospital for treatment, ANI reported. According to ANI, the bus fell into a gorge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district. Rescue operations are underway at the site.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Inspector General of Police, Jammu, SD Singh Jamwal, said most passengers were from Rajasthan and Bihar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the accident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident comes just days after militants attacked an Amarnath pilgrim bus, killing 8 and injuring 32.&nbsp;</p>
