Former senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela, <a href="http://www.wionews.com/south-asia/gujarat-speculation-rife-veteran-cong-leader-shankersinh-vaghela-may-leave-party-18149">who quit the Congress party in July</a> and launched a new political party, has allied with the All India Hindustan Congress Party for the Gujarat Assembly elections.

Mr Vaghela said at a press conference in Ahmedabad today that his party, the Jan Vikalp Morcha, will contest elections on the tractor symbol of the&nbsp;All India Hindustan Congress Party.

Mr Vaghela resigned from the Congress in July. In September, he launched the Jan Vikalp Morcha, pitching it as an alternative to the BJP and the Congress in the state.

The&nbsp; Jan Vikalp Morcha chief had earlier said that his party would contest all the 182 seats in the state Assembly.

The former chief minister of Gujarat, who was initially a member of the BJP, quit the party in the mid-Nineties and formed his own party, the Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP).

In 1996, he became chief minister of Gujarat with the support of the Congress. The RJP later merged with the Congress.
