The wife of Malaysia's ex-prime minister was Wednesday hit with a new corruption charge, the 20th since her husband's shock election loss, and complained she was the victim of "slander".

Rosmah Mansor - widely reviled in Malaysia due to her penchant for lavish overseas shopping sprees -- was charged with accepting a $1.2 million&nbsp;bribe in relation to a government solar power project.

She has already been hit with a barrage of money laundering and tax evasion charges linked to the looting of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/malaysia-to-sell-1mdb-linked-super-yacht-207637">sovereign wealth fund 1MDB</a>.

Allegations that she, her husband Najib Razak, and his cronies stole billions of dollars from the fund and went on a global shopping spree played a major role in the election loss of Najib's coalition last year.

Appearing in a Kuala Lumpur court, Rosmah denied the latest charge against her -- that she accepted a kickback to help a company secure a project providing solar power generators to schools.

Afterwards, Rosmah told reporters that people had started apologising to her and Najib for having believed "all the slander" against them.&nbsp;

"People chose to listen to all the lies, to all the untrue stories that have been told," she said. "I will remain patient and face all the trials and tribulations which Allah has made go through."

The 67-year-old had already been hit with two charges over the solar power case in November, when she was accused of accepting bribes worth 189 million ringgit. The other charges she faces relate to the plundering of 1MDB.&nbsp;

She denies any wrongdoing.

Since his election loss, Najib has also been arrested and hit with multiple charges linked to the 1MDB scandal. He went on trial for the first time over the multi-billion-dollar fraud last week. He denies wrongdoing.

Following the election, police discovered valuables, including cash, jewellery and luxury handbags, worth up to $273 million in properties linked to the couple.

Malaysian prosecutors said Monday they will <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/goldman-sachs-has-done-wrong-things-in-1mdb-case-pm-mahathir-mohamad-176997">summon Goldman Sachs units</a> in London and Hong Kong to appear at a June hearing of a case linked to corruption in state investment fund 1MDB.

The Wall Street titan is accused of misleading investors in the case when it helped <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/malaysia-probes-claim-china-offered-to-bail-out-1mdb-188963">1MDB raise $6.5 billion through a series</a> of bond issues in 2012 and 2013.

Malaysian authorities are seeking fines in excess of the $2.7 billion allegedly misappropriated from the bond issues as well as the $600 million Goldman earned in fees.

Last December, Malaysia filed criminal charges against Goldman Sachs units in Singapore, London and Hong Kong as well as two of the bank's former employees.

A representative from Goldman's Singapore unit and a team of local lawyers appeared in a Malaysian court Monday for a pre-trial hearing.

Prosecutor Aaron Paul Chelliah told reporters that "fresh summonses" will be served on the bank's Hong Kong and London offices ahead of the next pre-trial hearing on June 24.

This would mean representatives from all three Goldman units would appear in court in June, he added.

The new administration under Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has filed dozens of charges against Najib and barred him from leaving the country. The ex-premier has denied any wrongdoing.

The Goldman units and former bankers Tim Leissner and Ng Chong Hwa, a Malaysian, are accused of misappropriating $2.7 billion, bribing officials and giving false statements in relation to bond issues they arranged for the fund.
