French Open: Alex de Minuar sends Daniil Medvedev packing with impressive win in fourth round

Alex de Minuar beat Daniil Medvedev in the fourth-round match on the French Open 2024 edition on Monday (June 3). Medvedev made a promising start to the clash, however, lost the plotsoon to allow Australia's de Minuar a comeback. Eventually, the Aussie youngster won 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 to stage a remarkable comeback and sprint ahead in the Roland Garros. With this, De Minuar -- who never went past the second round at the tournament before this year -- will now gear up for a riveting quarterfinal match, having improved his game significantly on clay.

Talking about the contest, it started on expected note as many had their money on Russian star Medvedev. The fifth-seed, and a six-time Grand Slam finalist, won the opening set 6-4. He looked in good touch. It seemed that former US Open champion would make it to the next round without dropping much sweat. However, his form dipped in the following sets; allowing de Minaur to make a comeback.

The 11th-ranked Australian made a fresh start in the second set and was quick to close it, winning 6-2.The script remained the same in the third set with de Minaur dominating proceedings with his serves and making Medvedev do all the hardyards for each and every point. As a result, the Russian was seen covering a lot of distance on the court and lookedclueless. The latter won the third set 6-1. While Medvedev was determined to push the game to the final set and started with a lead in the penultimate one, he soon conceded the momentum to lose 3-6 and bow out.

With this, Medvedev's disappointing run at the Roland Garros continues. For de Minaur, he will now lock horns with either Alexander Zverev or Holger Rune in his second Slam quarterfinal and first since the 2020 US Open.
