French Open 2024: Coco Gauff scripts remarkable comeback to beat Ons Jabeur and enter semifinals

World number three Coco Gauff scripted a remakrable comeback, from a set down, to beat Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in her quarterfinal match at the 2024 French Open on Tuesday (June 4). With this, the American starreached her second French Open semifinal. Gauff, the reigning US Open champion and a former Roland Garros runner-up, defeated Jabuer4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Court Philippe Chatrier to storm into the last four. She will face either defending champion Iga Swiatek or Marketa Vondrousova for a place in the final.

Gauff had a nervy start and lost a tight opening set 4-6. However, she came into her own in the following two sets as Jabeur lost the momentum. The 20-year-old broke Jabeur's serve three times in the second set to force a decider. The youngsterattained a crucial break in game four and achieved a win on her third match point, as her opponent fired a simple smash wide, to become the first semifinalist of the 2024 edition at the Roland Garros.

After the match, Gauff told the crowd, "She's (Jabuer) a tough opponent and she's well loved on tour and I could tell by the crowd you guys wanted her to win. When I'm not playing, I do too." She further stated, "I like playing in atmospheres like this. I know you wanted her to win but even when I was in the bathroom, I was thinking this is really fun, win or lose."

Gauff further added, "Today I was trying to be aggressive towards the end and I got a little bit tight on the couple of match points but I think I did what I needed to do to win the match." The young sensation will be confident going ahead, having beaten Jabeur with her aggressive serves.

Talking about Jabeur, the eighth-seedis awaits her maiden major title, having lost three finals and four quarterfinals. She had a chance to enter the top four after a lead versus Gauff, however, the 29-year-old missed a golden opportunity -- mainly for not being able to cut out her unforced errors on Tuesday.
