New England Patriots lead Super Bowl at halftime

The New England Patriots led 3-0 against the Los Angeles Rams at half-time in the Super Bowl here Sunday.

A 42-yard Stephen Gostkowski field goal towards the end of the first quarter gave the Patriots a 3-0 lead in an attritional half dominated by defense at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw an interception on his first attempted pass of the game but the New England defence smothered the Rams' effectively throughout.

Brady is bidding to make history by becoming the first player to win six Super Bowls, 17 years after his first championship in 2002.
