Father of Sri Lankan all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva was shot dead by unidentified assailants, last week.
The shooting took place on the day when the team had to leave for West Indies.
De Silva's father was a local politician and was gunned down in Ratmalana, a suburb of the capital Colombo, as per reports.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the act.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old cricketer withdrew from the Windies tour that involves three Test matches.
There is no official word from the cricket board on who will replace de Silva.
Sri Lanka will also miss opener Dimuth Karunaratne who fractured a finger while batting in the nets earlier this month.
