Winter Olympics: South Korea bans entry of 36k foreigners due to 'security concern'

The 2018 Winter Olympics or PyeongChang 2018, is a major international multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 9 to 25 February 2018 in Pyeongchang County, South Korea.

Just a few days before the main event, South Korean security agencies have banned visitors to enter South Korea due to security reasons.

South Korea has banned 36,000 foreigners from entering the country ahead of the Winter Olympics, citing security concerns, Yonhap News Agency said on Monday.

Yonhap cited a South Korean lawmaker as saying the spy agency had told lawmakers it was working with foreign intelligence agencies to beef up foreign nationals' identity checks as an anti-terrorism plan for the Olympics.
