SL vs BAN, 3rd T20I: Mahedi Hasan took 4/11 in his four overs went past Harbhajan Singh's 4/12 set back in 2012 to register best T20I bowling figures by a visiting spinner in Colombo.
Bangladesh all-rounder Mahedi Hasan has broken ex-India spinner Harbhajan Singh's 13-year-old record to register best bowling figures in Colombo's RPS stadium in Sri Lanka by a visiting bowler. Hasan, who took 4/11 in his four overs, achieved the feat in third T20I against Sri Lanka on Wednesday (Jul 16). He surpassed Harbhajan's record of 4/12 by just one run and now is the best performing visiting spinner in an innings at RPS in Colombo. Harbhajan had set the record during ICC T20 World Cup 2012 against England. Overall, SL's Wanindu Hasaranga holds the record for best bowling figures at RPS with 4/9 against India back in 2021.
Thanks to Hasan's venue-best bowling figures, Bangladesh stopped Sri Lanka at 132/7 in the series decider. The score would have been even less if not for Dasun Shanaka's 35 not out in the last overs. Chsing the total, Bangladesh had a horrible start as they lost Parven Enom on the first ball but that was as close the hosts came to have a hold in the chase. Tanzid Hasan, who scored unbeaten 73, added 74 runs for the second wicket with skipper and Plyer of the Series Litton Das (32) to effectively close the door on Sri Lanka. Bangladesh eventually chased down the total wit 21 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand. They won the three-T20I series 2-1 after losing the Test and ODI series.
