‘People said I won't play for long’: Jasprit Bumrah reveals how he persisted with his action to make Team India dream a reality

Over the past few years, Jasprit Bumrah has become one of the key members of the Indian cricket team across formats. A bowler, who shot to fame for his uncanny action, has bamboozled world-class batsmen with his deadly yorkers and fierce bowling, Bumrah didn’t take much time to become a mainstay in international cricket and has been hailed as one of the greatest pacers to have played for India.

However, Bumrah has revealed that people told him that he won’t play for long and the maximum he could achieve is Ranji Trophy appearances while adding he persisted with his action and kept on improving to make his Team India dream a reality.

“Many people told me that I won’t play for long, there was an expectation that the last person to play for the country would be me,” said Bumrah when Yuvraj asked him about his high-arm bowling action during an Instagram Live session.

“They told me that I would just play the Ranji Trophy. But I kept on improving and I persisted with my action,” he further added.

Bumrah has played 64 ODIS, 50 T20Is and 14 Tests for India and has been a success in whichever country he has toured thus far. Earlier, even Kohli lauded Bumrah highly as the Indian skipper said that belief can lead you to greater heights and the Indian pacer is defying all odds to be one of the greatest of all-time.

“He is proving people wrong [when they say] that there is a set template for every format. If you havebelief, you can play every format. I totally vouch for that as well. He definitely has the mindset to succeed in all three formats and wants to be the best in the world,” Kohli spoke about Bumrah after his exploits on the West Indies tour.
