The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed Paris and Los Angeles as the host cities for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic games.

The IOC confirmed its July decision to award the 2024 and 2028 Olympics to Paris and Los Angeles after four of the six cities withdrew their bids for the 2024 Olympics.

Los Angeles withdrew its bid for the 2024 Olympics later in exchange for the 2028edition. This paved the road for Paris to clinch the 2024Olympics.

The IOC broke with decades of tradition byawardingthe twoOlympics to Paris and Los Angeles at the same time.

French President Emmanuel Macron was jubilant over the announcement.

"In the coming seven years we will prepare theOlympicGames with all our energy," said the French President.

"Together we must do everything in our power to ensure that Paris hosts a magnificent game in 2024," he added.

"This is a momentous day for the people of Los Angeles and the United States," said LA mayor Eric Garcetti.

"For the first time in a generation, we are bringing the Games back to the City of Angels."

Paris, which has held two previous Olympic Games, will host the games after 100 years while Los Angeles will organise the event for the third time after 1932 and 1984.
