Paris Paralympics 2024: Judoka Kapil Parmar wins historic bronze in men’s 60kg
The Indian contingent continues to create history at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024, as judoka Kapil Parmer became the first athlete from the country – male or female, to win a medal (bronze) in this discipline at the Summer Games. Kapil defeated Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira at the Champ de Mars Arena in the men's 60kg (J1) category, increasing India’s tally to a record 25 and counting in this edition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Parmar for this victory.

Parmar was on the top of his game in the bronze medal match, beating his opponent 10-0. Earlier, in the semifinal, Iranian S Banitaba Khorram Abadi beat Parmer 10-0 at the Champs-de-mart arena.
Meanwhile, per the rule book, the J1 class in para judo is for athletes who suffer from no to very low visual activity. Besides, to indicate they may need guided support before, during and after a match, this category of athletes wear red circles.
