Paris Games: Not Manu Bhakar but Norman Pritchard was first to win 2 Olympics medals for India in one edition

Manu Bhaker created history at Paris Olympics 2024 on Tuesday (Jul 30) by winning a bronze medal in mixed 10m air pistol event with Sarabjot Singh. With the medal, Manu became the first Indian athlete to win twin Olympic medals at single edition.
The shooter, however, isn't the first to win two medals for India at a single Olympic games. Before her, Norman Pritchard had won two medals for India at the 1900 games - also in Paris.
Pritchard had won his two medals - both silver - in men's 200m dash and 200m hurdles event. He, however, had participated from both Britain and India at the 1900 Paris Games as per Olympics.com website but his medals are counted in India's tally.
"Pritchard moved to England in the summer of 1900 and was elected a member of London AC in June after which he competed in the AAA Championships, which he entered as a member of the London AC and the Bengal Presidency AC, further adding to the confusion. The British team was chosen for the 1900 Olympics based on the results of the 1900 AAA Championships, and Pritchard's runner-up finish to Al Kraenzlein in the 120y hurdles garnered him Olympic selection," notes Olympics.com website.
As for Manu, she had previously won a bronze in women's 10m air pistol event - getting the first medal for India at the Paris Olympic 2024 games.
She also became only the second Indian woman with two Olympic medals. Before her, badminton player PV Sindhu had won medals in 2016 Rio Olympics (silver) and 2021 Tokyo Olympics (bronze).
Overall, India now have two medals at the ongoing Games with plenty more expected courtesy of Sindhu (badminton), Neeraj Chopra (javelin), hockey teams, etc.
Manu will also be participating in women's 25m pistol event and given her form, she's expected to do well and add another possible third medal for India and herself.
