Pakistan's Shahid Afridi tests positive for COVID-19

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi on Saturday confirmed that he has been tested positive for COVID-19. Afridi, while taking to social media platform Twitter, said that he has been feeling unwell since Thursday with his body aching badly while adding that he was tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus.

“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah #COVID19 #pandemic #hopenotout #staysafe #stayhome,” Afridi tweeted.

Afridi has been involved in charitable causes through his foundation Shahid Afridi Foundation and has helped a lot of needy people during the COVID-19 pandemic. While he has visited lots of places, in Pakistan,to help the needy and continue his social work, Afridi recently hit the headlines due to his controversial remarks on Kashmir and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His social works had even received the backing of Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh but their relations turned sour after Afridi's remarks on PM Modi and Kashmir.

The swashbuckling former all-rounder is the third Pakistan cricketer to test positive for COVID-19 after Taufeeq Umar and Zafaq Sarfaraz. The former Pakistan opener - Umar - tested positive in June but his tests came out negative after 14 days isolation period in the first week of June.

The veteran of 398 ODIs and 27 Tests - Afridi - recently hailed the PCB's move to appoint Younis Khan as the team's batting coach for the upcoming England tour. “This is a show of cricketers and it is better if it’s run by them. All are sincere and have great individual performances when it comes to cricket or coaching. I am hopeful that they will do their jobs in the best possible manner,” he had said on his YouTube channel.
