India attained its second medal in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 edition, on Tuesday (Jul30), courtesy of Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh's win in their bronze medal match in the mixed 10m air pistol event. While it is a commendable feat for both Indian athletes, Manu has once again made the headlines after acquiring bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event on Sunday (Jul28). In just 48 hours, the 22-year-old has created history by becoming the first Indian athleteto secure multiple medals at an Olympic edition. She also became only the second Indian woman with two Olympic medals (joining PV Sindhu).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the achievement of Manu and Sarabjot shortly after their win, where they managed a16-10 scoreline versusOh Ye-jin and Lee Wonho of South Korea. After the win, Manu said, "I feel really proud and a lot of gratitude... It is just blessings. Thanks for all the blessings and love. We can only control what is in our hands. I had a chat with my father regarding this and decided we keep fighting till the last shot." Meanwhile, her partner Sarabjot stated, "It feels great. The game was tough, but glad we could do it."
Given how the shooting team underperformed in the Tokyo Olympics, i.e. the previous edition, this is a brilliant comeback from the shooters in the Paris Games.
