Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri hailed Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea as "a very good goalkeeper" and offered his support to him after the keeper's mistake let in Marcos Alonso to earn the Chelsea a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Man Utd's Spanish goalkeeper, who is often termed as one of the best goalkeepers of his time, was central to alot of criticism after he gifted Chelsea the equaliser.

But Sarri came forward in de Gea's defence and said, "It's impossible to stay very high level for 12 months with consistency, but de Gea, in my opinion, is a great goalkeeper."

United's boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also defended de Gea. He said, "I trust David and he's, for me, been the best player United have had the last six or seven years."

"He's been absolutely outstanding. Going through tough patches is just part of a footballer's career and David will be fine,"Solskjaer added.

Alonso's goal before the break cancelled out Juan Mata's early strike for United.

The draw means Chelsea with 68 points now have a two-point cushion in fourth place, occupying the last UEFA Champions League qualifying place.

United in sixth are thee points behind and with an inferior goal difference with two games to play.

Arsenal - who lost 3-0 at Leicester on Sunday - are fifth with 66 points.
